Water science for the people it serves
The Hydroinformatics Laboratory is a research group at Universitas Gadjah Mada, working on the full chain from rainfall to river flow to impact.
A small team with big questions
We study how much water there is, when it becomes dangerous, and who is affected. Our work connects field measurements, satellite rainfall and models with the floods, droughts and losses that Indonesian river basins live with.
The results go into open datasets, tools and papers that agencies, communities and other researchers can use, and into students who leave the lab able to publish, share code and think independently.
- Field measurements, satellites and models in one workflow
- Questions that come from Indonesian basins and communities
- Open science by default: data, code and papers shared

Research is better together. We share field days, code, coffee and the occasional deadline panic, and we look after each other along the way.
- Mentoring, not just supervisionRegular one-to-one time and honest feedback, from the first idea to the final defence.
- Field days and muddy bootsSurveys on real rivers, with real communities. The data you analyse is data you helped collect.
- Open science, shared creditCode, data and papers are shared openly, and everyone who contributes is named.
- Every milestone celebratedA first figure, an accepted paper, a defended thesis: we notice, and we celebrate together.
